The pathway to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 resumes as the Asia Qualifier kicks off in Bangkok. This significant event, which begins on a Friday, features nine nations competing for a spot in the final stage of qualification for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament will unfold over 12 days with 21 matches played across two venues in Bangkok.

The opening matches of the tournament see Thailand facing Kuwait at TCG, while Nepal takes on Hong Kong China and UAE battles Malaysia at AIT ground. The teams are organized into three groups: Group A consists of Thailand, Kuwait, and Bhutan; Group B includes UAE, Malaysia, and Qatar; and Group C comprises Nepal, Hong Kong China, and Bahrain.

The format of the Asia Qualifier ensures that group winners advance to the Super Three stage. It is in this stage that the top two teams will secure their qualification for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Qualifier.

Aminul Islam, ICC Development Manager for Asia, highlighted the growing standard of women’s cricket within Asia during the lead-up to the tournament. Mohideen A. Kader, CEO of the Cricket Association of Thailand, also expressed his delight at Thailand hosting such a prestigious event.

Adding significance to the event, the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be hosted in England and Wales, featuring 12 teams across 33 matches. Prestigious venues such as Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Old Trafford, The Oval, and Bristol County Ground are set to host the matches, with the final scheduled to take place at Lord’s Cricket Ground on 5 July.

From the 12 spots in the World Cup, eight teams have already qualified automatically, including New Zealand, Australia, England, India, South Africa, the West Indies, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The remaining four positions will be determined through a ten-team qualifier, which involves Bangladesh, Scotland, USA, and the top teams from the Asia Qualifier.
