Team India Scenario for WTC 2023-2025 Final
If India wins 4-0, 5-0 vs Australia
The easiest route for the Indian cricket team to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 Final is if the Men in Blue (in white though) can win the 5 match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series vs Australia either 4-0 or 5-0. It would secure Team India a direct spot in the final without needing to rely on other teams.
If India wins 3-0, 3-1, 4-1 vs Australia
Team India will have to rely on Ben Stokes led England cricket team in case Rohit Sharma’s team wins the series with scoreline of 3-0, 3-1 or 4-1 vs Australia in the BGT 2024-2025. England faces New Zealand in a 3 match Test series vs New Zealand later in November and Team India would need England to atleast draw 1 Test match vs New Zealand to hamper Kiwis’ chances at the final.
If India wins 2-0 vs Australia in BGT
Now in-case England go on to do one better and rather than a draw, if England manages to win atleast one match vs New Zealand in the 3 match series, that makes Team India’s journey a little smoother. In that case, Team India will have to go to Australia and win the Test series atleast 2-0.
If India wins 3-2 vs Australia
Now what if the Indian cricket team wins 3-2 vs Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025. Well then the Indian cricket team will have to rely on a lot of things. First of all, Rohit Sharma’s side have to pray that England atleast win one match vs New Zealand and also hope that Sri Lanka draw a Test match vs Australia, as them winning the series would see them go past India.
If India 1-2, 1-3, 0-1 or 1-1 vs Australia
What if the Indian cricket team losses the series 1-2, 1-3, 0-1 or if the series ends 1-1 draw, then there is a lot of scenarios to look after for the Indian team. In that case, England must win the series vs New Zealand anyhow. Other than that, Team India will also have to hope that Pakistan win their Test series 2-0 vs South Africa, Australia must win 2-0 vs Sri Lanka and South Africa vs Sri Lanka must end with 1-1 scoreline.
If Australia vs India ends 2-2
We have an interesting scenario in case the series between India and Australia ends 2-2 draw. If the series ends 2-2, then Team India must hope that New Zealand win no more than 1 match vs England in the Test series and Sri Lanka must win the series vs Australia. While there is a possibility that the first scenario might happen, Sri Lanka’s chances of getting the better of Australia is very dim.
If Australia win the series 1-4, 0-2, 0-3
Now, if the Indian cricket team suffers a big series defeat vs Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-2025, then Team India have to heavily rely on other results. First, they must hope that England win the Test vs New Zealand 2-0 or 3-0. Other than that, Pakistan must win 2-0 vs South Africa, Australia must win 2-0 vs Sri Lanka and South Africa vs Sri Lanka must end 1-1.
India out WTC Final race
While all the above scenarios have an opportunity for the Indian cricket team to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 final. But, there is also possibilities that the Indian cricket team won’t qualify for the WTC Final in Lord’s. That is, if the Indian team losses the series 4-0 or 5-0 vs Australia, then there is no opportunity for the Indian team to qualify for the final.
