Match Results

In the 25th match of IPL 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders dominated Chennai Super Kings  at the MA Chidambaram Stadium with a clinical all-round performance. Batting first, CSK faltered badly and could only post 103 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. The KKR spin trio of Sunil Narine (3 for 13), Varun Chakravarthy, and Moeen Ali applied the pressure early and never let CSK settle. Despite MS Dhoni returning to lead the side, the Super Kings’ batting failed to click, with only Shivam Dube (31*) and Vijay Shankar (29) offering resistance.

Chasing a bare minimum total, KKR got off to a flying start as Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock took the attack to the bowlers, scoring 71 in the powerplay. Narine smashed a quickfire 44 off just 18 balls, while de Kock supported him with a 23-run cameo. KKR chased down the target with ease in just 10.1 overs, sealing a dominant eight-wicket win. The result handed CSK their fifth straight defeat of the season, continuing their downward spiral in the tournament.

As It Happened

First Innings: Chennai Super Kings 103-9(20 Overs)

Chennai’s innings never got going as their top order failed to capitalize on the powerplay. Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway couldn’t provide a solid start, and things only got worse from there. The middle order struggled to counter KKR’s disciplined spin attack. Sunil Narine was the star with the ball, picking up 3 for 13, while Varun Chakravarthy and Moeen Ali supported him with tight spells. Shivam Dube (31*) and Vijay Shankar (29) were the only ones who managed to add some runs, but CSK could only post 103/9 in their 20 overs—their lowest-ever IPL score at home.

Second Innings: Kolkata Knight Riders 107-2(10.1 Overs)

In reply, KKR came out all guns blazing. Sunil Narine smashed 44 off just 18 balls, putting the chase on fast-forward mode. Quinton de Kock chipped in with a handy 23 before being dismissed by Anshul Kamboj. But with the required run rate never posing a challenge, Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer calmly saw the chase through, reaching the target in just 10.1 overs. CSK bowler yet again failed just as same as the batting order.

The Chepauk crowd was left stunned as Kolkata Knight Riders handed Chennai Super Kings their fifth straight defeat with a dominant eight-wicket win., marking this as CSKs 3rd loss at homeground Chepauk.

Did We Get It Right?

Correct Predictions ✅

Win Prediction: We predicted a Kolkata Knight Riders Victory and they delivered. KKR capitalized on CSK’s poor form and outclassed them in all departments.

KKR’s Spin Advantage: We correctly anticipated that KKR’s spin trio—Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Moeen Ali—would be crucial. Narine’s 3/13 dismantled CSK’s top and middle order, turning the match in KKR’s favour.

CSK’s Form Slump: We highlighted CSK’s ongoing struggles and predicted their inability to bounce back. Their fifth consecutive loss, along with another dismal batting display, reinforced that concern.

KKR’s Batting Edge: Despite inconsistency, we backed KKR to have the better batting unit—and they proved us right with Narine’s explosive start and Rahane-Iyer’s calm finish.

Misses ❌

De Kock’s Struggles: We mentioned Quinton de Kock’s form being an issue, but he did provide a brisk 23 off 13 balls, helping KKR maintain momentum in the chase.

CSK’s Bowling Threat: We expected bowlers like Jadeja, Pathirana, and Ashwin to step up, but none made any impact in defending a low total. KKR chased it down with ease.

The Chennai Super Kings’ downward spiral continued as they slumped to a fifth straight defeat, this time at the hands of a dominant Kolkata Knight Riders side. With their batting unit struggling and their bowlers failing to defend even modest totals, CSK appear far from the championship pedigree they’re known for. On the other hand, KKR capitalized on CSK’s vulnerability, with Sunil Narine leading the charge both with the ball and at the top of the order. Their spin attack, solid top-order aggression, and composed middle-order presence underline why they were the stronger side going into the match. As things stand, KKR are gaining rhythm while CSK are in urgent need of a turnaround before the season slips out of reach.
